Stephen Michael Burdick

Stephen Michael "Steve" Burdick of Hood River, Oregon, passed away peacefully at his home on June 2, 2025. He was 79 years old.
Steve was born on February 24, 1946, in Escondido, California. He attended Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, where he studied economics. Following college, he proudly served in the U.S. Coast Guard.
Steve's professional life was devoted to urban planning and economic development. He was the City of Vancouver's first Director of Economic Development and left an indelible mark on the city. He was the visionary behind the Esther Short Redevelopment Plan of 1998, which spurred $365 million in private investment around Esther Short Park. He also played a key role in the redevelopment of Vancouver's downtown waterfront, helping shape it into the vibrant area it is today. He was also responsible for the Vancouver Hilton Hotel & Convention Center, the worlds first, LEED Certified new build project.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; his daughters, Ansje and Summer; stepchildren, Johanna and Teunis; five grandchildren; his brother, Jim; and his sister, Jeanne.
At Steve's request, no formal service will be held.
Memorial contributions in Steve's name may be made to Friends of the Sunshine Club through the Hood River Providence Foundation.
