Melody Schafer (Rinn)

Melody Beth Rinn, a beacon of creativity and love, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2024, at the Blue Water Hospice Home in Marysville, Michigan. Born on August 27, 1946, in Port Huron, Michigan, she was the cherished daughter of the late Carl August and Beth (Wiegand) Schafer. Melody's life was a tapestry of devotion to her family, a passion for the arts, and an unwavering spirit of kindness.

Melody's journey began as a bright light in Port Huron, where she quickly distinguished herself as a brilliant mind, becoming Co-Valedictorian of Port Huron High School's Class of 1964. Her academic achievements were just the beginning of a life marked by excellence and a zest for learning. On October 15, 1966, Melody's heart found its match when she married her beloved husband, Richard, at Port Huron First United Methodist Church. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and the joy of raising their three children, Amy, Scott, and Laura.

A mother extraordinaire, Melody instilled in her children the values of compassion, creativity, and the importance of family. Her love blossomed further with the arrival of her grandchildren, Brendan, Connor, Preston, and Griffin, who became the center of her universe. Melody's eyes would light up with pride and joy at every opportunity to spend time with them, whether it was sharing stories, imparting wisdom, or simply basking in their presence.

An artist at heart, Melody's hands were rarely still, as she poured her soul into painting, sewing, and various crafts. Her creations were not only beautiful but also infused with the love and thoughtfulness that she put into every detail. Melody's love for the water was another testament to her appreciation for life's simple pleasures. She found solace on the river. As an avid reader, Melody's love for stories were as boundless as the ocean.

She is survived by her loving husband, Richard; children, Amy (Richard) Tinsley of Port Huron, Scott (Christy) Rinn of Troy, and Laura Lee of Fort Gratiot; grandchildren, Brendan (Summer) Tinsley of Port Huron, Connor Tinsley of Kalamazoo, Preston and Griffin Lee of Fort Gratiot; siblings, Greg Schafer of Port Huron, Darlene Kerschbaum of Whitmore Lake, and Angie (Tom) Kriston of Port Huron; and her brother-in-law, John (Kim) Rinn of Farmington Hills.

Melody's legacy is one of a creative, loving, and thoughtful soul who touched the lives of all who knew her. Her gentle spirit, unwavering support, and the warmth of her smile will be deeply missed but never forgotten. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire and guide her family and friends.

As we bid farewell to Melody Beth Rinn, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a heart that generously loved. Her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those she leaves behind, guiding them like a lighthouse's beam through the journey of life. Melody's memory will be cherished and honored, as her story lives on through the lives of those she loved so dearly.

Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Grace Memorial-Smith Chapel. A celebration of her life will be held privately.  Memorials are suggested to the Hunter Hospitality House.
