Craig F. Young

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Craig Franklin Young, age 79 of St. Clair, on January 18, 2025, in Clinton Twp., Michigan. Craig was given grace after a long, hard-fought battle with Parkinsons. Craig was born on December 16, 1945 in Port Huron, Michigan to the late Bernard and Lucille (Schieman) Young.

Craig graduated from Port Huron High School in 1965 and went on to study at St. Clair Community College. He was then drafted into the military and served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he went to work for Chrysler before continuing his education. In 1972, he graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Social Work and as a lifelong Spartan! Most importantly, Craig met his wife, Gail (Gower) Young, in 1970. They were married on June 9, 1973, sharing nearly 52 years together.

Craig worked for the State of Michigan as a Social Worker. After retiring in 2002, he and his wife were able to spend many happy years together traveling, sailing, and spending time with friends. His absolute favorite place to be was near the water, especially when it involved his true passion of sailing. In their later years, Craig and Gail found great joy volunteering at the Great Lakes Maritime Center, where Craig loved watching the freighters going up and down the St. Clair River and chatting with visitors about the boats passing by. Craig’s motto was “any day on the water – was a good day”
Craig is survived by his loving wife, Gail (Gower) Young, his two sons, Aaron (Julie) and Scott (Jacqueline) Young, and his grandchildren, Zoey, Harry, Jane, and Henry. Craig will be joined in heaven by his parents, Bernie and Lucille, and his granddaughter, Annabelle Young, who passed away in 2011 due to a heart defect.
