Johannes "John" Bachmann

Johannes “John” Bachmann, age 72, of Port Huron Twp. passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2017. He was born February 3, 1945 in The Netherlands to Eduard and Anna Bachmann. They immigrated to the United States in 1954. John married Margaret “Marge” Thorn on January 7, 1966 in Port Huron. John served in the U.S. National Guard after becoming a U.S. citizen. He retired from Domtar after 39 years of service. John was a member of American Legion Post 8 in Port Huron. John also was involved with the Boy Scouts of America. He was a Scout Master of Troop #178, and was leader for the Mackinac Island Service Troop #168. He enjoyed leather working, painting, gardening, camping, and his animals.
John is survived by his wife, Marge Bachmann, two sons, Johannes “John” Bachmann, Jr., and Scott Bachmann, two grandchildren, Nicole Ashly Bachmann, and Brent Alan Bachmann, a brother, Albert (Judy) Bachmann, and a sister, Anna (William) Komph, several nieces and nephews, and his dogs, Buffy and Buddy.
A funeral service will take place at 11 AM Thursday at the Smith Family Funeral Home – North, 1525 Hancock Street with Pastor Ron Jacobs of the New Covenant Church of God officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council. Pallbearers will be Robert Komph, Daniel Presswood, Eduard Bachmann, Brent Bachmann, and Jack Presswood. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Bachmann, Eddie Komph, Brian Komph, Mariana Komph, Anna Presswood and Debbie Komph. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the funeral home. There will also be visitation on Thursday beginning at 10 AM. Memorials may be made to the Mackinac Island Service Troop #168 or the New Covenant Church of God. www.smithfamilyfuneralhome.com.
